A great badminton racket and an affordable way to enter the sport, the Yonex Muscle Power 3 is a great badminton racket for beginners. It has a well-constructed frame with only a few drawbacks which we’ll touch on later in this article. See below for a summary of the review and pick up a Yonex Muscle Power 3 today!
The Frame
The frame of the Yonex Muscle Power 3 is made out of aluminum but the shaft is constructed out of a mix of graphite and carbon fiber. This gives the Muscle Power 3 great durability meaning that this badminton racket will last you years if you want it to.

The Muscle Power series is known for reducing stress and eliminating fatigue through the string configuration and construction. The strings on all Muscle Power rackets are closer together than most rackets to give you an improved surface to hit with.
The big thing about this frame is that it has over a 30% larger sweetspot than other badminton rackets. For beginners, this larger head gives you more area to hit the shuttlecock with, making it easier for you to play.
Yonex Muscle Power 3 Specifications

One of the major benefits of the Muscle Power 3 for beginners, is the weight. This has a weight class of 2U putting it between 90 – 95 grams.
While slightly heavier than most badminton rackets, I actually liked it!
The weight of this badminton racket made me really think through my movements and smashes.
To give the perfect amount of power to your shots, the Yonex muscle power 3 has a medium flex rating. This puts it firmly in the center of the flex rating for badminton rackets.
For beginners, a medium flex makes a great choice as you get the best of both worlds.
Often times, highly flexible rackets are harder to control because of how much flex they have. Meanwhile, highly stiff badminton rackets can feel unresponsive in your hands.
By combining the best aspects of both ends of the flex scale, the Yonex Muscle Power 3 lets you feel the impact of the shuttlecock in your hands while keeping the racket stable.
This racket does come strung from many online retailers at a string tension of 19 lbs. In many cases, it’s actually one of the most affordable badminton rackets that you can buy! And it comes with a case.
Limitations
Now, I know you’re getting excited about the possibilities with this Yonex Muscle Power racket. Personally I think it’s one of the best badminton rackets for beginners that you can buy right now. However, there are some drawbacks.
The main drawback I found while testing is that the Muscle Power 3 is shorter than typical rackets. It’s not a big difference, but I did have to tweak my movements to get a little closer to the shuttlecock than normal.
Muscle Power 3 vs 5
People always ask about the differences between the Muscle Power 3 and the Muscle Power 5 so here it goes. While both are aimed at beginner and recreational players, the Muscle Power 5 has a head made out of aluminium and a steel shaft.
This makes it heavier than the Muscle Power 3. The 5 weighs in at 95 – 99 grams while is an entire weight class above the Power 3.
For beginners and recreational players, I would have to recommend the Muscle Power 3 over the Muscle Power 5. While testing both, I simply found the Power 5 to be too heavy to be a good introduction to badminton.
