Characteristics of Best Junior Badminton Rackets
All junior badminton rackets are light. Just think about your child: is he half your weight? A third? Every kid needs a light racket when they first start so that their arms don’t get tired. Light junior rackets also help when you are trying to teach them technique.
Key Points: Junior badminton rackets are both shorter and lighter than traditional badminton rackets making them easier for kids to use.
Junior rackets also are shorter than traditional badminton rackets. For kids, this means that they can swing the racket easier and control where the shuttle goes. Most junior badminton rackets range from 21” – 23”. Depending on the age and size of your child, you should choose one length over the other.
Key Points: Take into account the size of your child when looking for rackets for kids. Also talk to them! A badminton racket they like is one they’ll play with.
When choosing a badminton racket for kids, the most important thing you can do is look at your child! Most junior badminton rackets are designed for children under 10. Additionally, each generally has specific age range underneath that. Is your child big for his or her age? Buy a racket for a child about one year older. The opposite is also true for kids who are small for their age.
What’s most important is making sure the racket fits your child AND that the child likes it. Does your daughter like the color pink? Grab her a little pink badminton racket and it will be impossible to tear her away from the net!
Best Badminton Rackets for Kids
After having a number of parents consult me about this issue, I decided to make a list of my favorite junior badminton rackets. Each one of these has been personally tested and vouched for by parents who are looking to start their kids young in badminton. If that describes you, check out the list below.
Yonex Muscle Power 2 – Junior Badminton Racket

Let’s start out with my absolute favorite junior badminton racket, the Yonex Muscle Power 2. A number of parents I know, play with Yonex Muscle Power 3’s and 5’s and this junior version plays very similar to those.
From a gigantic badminton brand, Yonex simply took their traditional Yonex Muscle Power series and resized it for children. In total it comes in at 21” long with an aluminum frame making it light and easy to swing for children.
My Thoughts: While Yonex says that this racket is perfect for any child under 10, I prefer to recommend for children from 4 – 8. It is a small and powerful racket so it’s easy for small children to use.
The frame is square shaped creating equal sized strings in both directions. This makes the sweet spot large for your child making it easier for them to hit the shuttle.
Many of the parents I have spoken to swear by this junior badminton racket for their little kids. They rave about how their child seems to pick up badminton since they got this racket.
The last thing to love about the Junior Muscle Power 2 racket is the price! For under $25 or less than a nice lunch with your family, you can start your child playing badminton today.
Senston Mini Badminton Set Junior Badminton Racket Kit
One of the most popular junior badminton sets for kids available, every badminton household should have one of these sets for child to play with. With 2 badminton rackets for kids, 2 shuttlecocks, and 1 badminton bag, this kit has everything you need to get 2 kids playing badminton in no time.

Each badminton racket measures just under 23 inches at 22.8 inches in length making these ideal for any children from 5 – 10 years old. The junior badminton rackets are made out of carbon aluminum to make the racket kid resistant. Have you ever seen a kid with a tennis racket? They will hit that thing against the ground, the wall, and other people. These badminton rackets are designed with that kind of abuse in mind.
My Thoughts: If you want all of your children to at least try badminton, buying a badminton set instead of individual rackets just makes sense. At that age, you don’t know if they want to stick with it or not. A badminton set is a low-cost way to introduce kids to badminton.
Every kid loves one thing: playing with other children. The whole purpose of buying a badminton set instead of one junior badminton racket is to so that children can learn badminton and have fun with other children at the same time.
In that respect, I personally think the Senston Mini Badminton Set is a great choice for young kids learning to play badminton. Especially if you have multiple kids, a mini badminton set makes sense for your family.
Mini Badminton Set for Kids

Both of these rackets are 18” long making them ideal for kids from 3 – 7 depending on the size of your child. One neat feature designed especially to appeal to children is that this set comes with a LED birdie which glows in the dark. What kid doesn’t love things that glow in the dark?!
In total, this set comes with 2 junior badminton rackets, 1 soft ball(for hitting practice), 1 LED birdie, and 1 cover. If you are looking for a quick and cheap way to get your kids started playing badminton, this is the set for you.
