Wimbledon is one of tennis’ four grand slams and arguably the most prestigious tournament in the sport. It’s held annually on the outdoor grass courts of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club (AELTC) in Wimbledon, London, and has been running since 1877.
As of 2017, the tournament is traditionally played in the first two weeks of July. Prior to this, it was played across the last week of June and the first week of July. In terms of Wimbledon’s position on the tennis calendar, it’s been chronologically the third of the four grand slam tournaments since 1987.
The All England Club has seen some of the greatest tennis matches in history, with the likes of Roger Federer, Serena Williams and Rafael Nadal all playing some of the best tennis of their career on the iconic grass courts.
But, who are the most successful players in the history of the tournament? Which male and female player holds the record for the most titles at the Championships?
This guide will answer both questions, as well as listing all of the multiple winners of the title and some of the most significant records.
